It's hard to believe that the British Masters was under threat last year, as a bumper crowd of over 70,000 people marched through the gates of Hillside last week and were treated to both wonderful weather and glorious golf for their efforts.

Come Sunday afternoon, it was Marcus Kinhult who picked up his maiden European Tour title; the 22-year-old Swede enjoying a one-shot victory from several players, including Matt Wallace and Eddie Pepperell.

The clock is ticking

What can you do in three minutes? Hopefully, you can find your golf ball otherwise you will be subjected to a one-stroke penalty - yes, it's been reduced from five minutes to three in a bid to speed up play. But when does the clock start ticking and what can you do to help?

How to speed-up play has been a hot-topic for a number of years now and golf’s governing bodies reacted with the new rule book to help tackle the issue.

Although the time you have to search for a 'lost ball' has been reduced by two minutes, one thing that has not changed is that the clock does not start ticking until the player has reached the area where the ball was 'lost'.

However, due to the reduced time to search for your ball, it is recommended you still hit a provisional ball if you believe you may have trouble finding your original in order to save the lengthy task of walking back to the tee.

First things first, the easiest way to achieve the holy grail of long, straight drives is to find the middle of the clubface every time, which is easier said than done for most of us. Following that, it’s all about launching your drives high with a good spin rate.

Simple, right?

It doesn’t matter how fast or smoothly you swing, if the clubhead and shaft are a bad match for the way you play, your chances of sending a perfect drive into the air will be seriously hampered.

So, the very first thing we need to do is get you fitted correctly. During the process, we will chat about your game, watch you hit some balls, and assess what you have told us in order to find the right shaft/head combination for your game.
